Lunchtime Recital: A4 Brass Quartet

On Wednesday 19th December 2018, just days before Christmas, A4 Brass Quartet (2018 CMF Artists) gave the fourth recital in our 2018-19 Lunchtime Recital Series at St Bart’s the Less.

The multi-award-winning A4 Brass Quartet presented a Celebration of Christmas with carols sacred and secular arranged for brass to a capacity audience. Their programme included works by Poulenc, Bartók, Smetana, and Jonathan Bates, as well as a number of traditional carols, many of them arranged by Jonathan Bates, who is a member of the quartet. (For full details, please download the programme below.)

The recital concluded with whole audience on its feet singing ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’ accompanied by the Quartet, descant and all! This was followed by free mince pies and wine served at the back of the church.

The performance was reviewed by leading Brass Band News website, 4barsrest, who commented that the recital “rounded off a memorable year of artistic achievement” for the Quartet (click to read full review).
