Event Details

City Music Foundation is partnering with Barbican and Culture Mile for Sound Unbound, a free music festival taking place in the City of London Saturday 18 – Sunday 19 May 2019. This weekend-long classical music festival will explore unexpected spaces across Culture Mile, which stretches from Farringdon to Moorgate in the north-west of the Square Mile, celebrating fantastic music alongside the history and heritage of the area.

Bartosz Glowacki (accordion) presents ‘History of Tango’ at Piano Smithfield.

About the programme: From humble beginnings, the tango became one of the world’s most popular dance forms and musical genres. Accordionist and bandoneon player Bartosz Glowacki explores the history of the tango in the intimate setting of Piano Smithfield. Tango music is without question a South American style – it came to life in Argentina and Uruguay in the early 19th century – but it was developed amongst European immigrant and African slave populations. Glowacki’s programme includes music from tango’s golden era, ‘nuevo tango’ from ‪Astor Piazzolla, and music by tango’s greatest star, ‪Carlos Gardel.
